Three Walker County high school seniors were recently selected to receive the Good Citizen Scholarship Award provided by the Walker County Republican Party.  The Party hopes to encourage students to become involved voting citizens while reaching their full educational potential.

Tyler Cain from Ridgeland High School, Reanna Huskey of LaFayette High School, and Adam Whitsett of Gordan Lee High School will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to go towards funding their college education.  Cain will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy; Huskey, Berry College; and Whitsett, the University of Georgia.

To be eligible, seniors were required to have high academic standards, be involved in community service, and submit a statement of “Why you love this country and how you will contribute to its well-being.”  Cain hopes to serve the country by fulfilling his commission in the Marines, and ultimately the flight demonstration squadron, Blue Angels.  Huskey want to help abused children through psychology and art therapy, while Whitsett wants to help those with medical needs by becoming a general surgeon.

There will be a reception to honor the students at the Chickamauga Library on July 19, at 6 p.m. at which time GOP Chairman, Matt Williamson will award their checks.

  1. Congratulations to the 3 Seniors who have earned these 1,000.00 awards toward achieving the continued education needed to fulfill their life’s ambition.
