The Summerville Depot will play host to a full weekend of events scheduled for Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, as part of the “Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days” celebration. Train arrivals from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum are scheduled for both days, with an expected arrival time of 1:00 p.m.
The weekend of fun featuring wonderful cuisine, music, and atmosphere kicks off with Oktoberfest on Saturday as Summerville Main Street presents Oktoberfest 2017.This free event will feature Oktoberfest beers, a German feast, musical performances, shopping, and more. Oktoberfest will also include traditional local foods, along with an array of Oktoberfest traditions such as: bratwurst, beer cheese soup, German Potato Salad, Barvarian pretzels, German Chocolate, strudels, other German inspired foods, and artisans. A biergarten featuring a variety of specialty beer will be located inside of the depot.
Fun activities and games are scheduled throughout the day. Oktoberfest felt party hats will be sold at the event and festival attendees are encouraged to sport German wear and brush up on the chicken dance for extra fun. Hours for the festival will be from 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m.
Those looking for some good old fashioned fun may enjoy taking a step back in time to a slower pace of life at the “Old-Fashioned Sunday Dinner” at the Historic Summerville Depot. Servers and staff will be dressed in old fashioned attire for the day and event goers will have the opportunity to enjoy an “Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner” with live bluegrass music by the Flat Bottom Boys. Sunday Dinner will be served by Sweet P’s at the cost of $7 for a meat and 2 vegetables, or $6 for a 4-vegetable plate. Meats will include a choice of fried chicken or ham. Vegetable offered will include mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, turnip greens, fried okra, baked sweet potato, and green beans. Bowls of pinto beans and cornbread will also be offered at the cost of $3.00.
An arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Train is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and a turning of the Summerville Turntable will also be featured. Event hours are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. No admission is required.
